Top 10 Common Workplace Injuries, Part 1

Life is full of risks. However, men and women who head to work should not have to worry about the possibility of a serious injury while driving into work each and every day. While some accidents are unavoidable, there are a number of common workplace injuries that CAN be avoided. As a business owner, you should be aware of these things. Too many injuries in the workplace could lead to a higher workers compensation premium – remember that!

Over the next 2 weeks, our agency will share a list of the top 10 most common workplace injuries – and HOW they can be avoided. According to American Training Resources, the following injuries are a part of the most common:

#1: Unsafe Acts
Solution: Implement strict employee and safety rules with consequences for those who do not abide by the rules.

#2: Overexertion Injuries
Solution: Encourage employees to stretch and warm up to loosen up the body to prepare for a day’s work of heavy lifting and loading. Holding training courses to educate on techniques. Always offer assistance or allow employees to get it, if need be. Allow employees to take frequent breaks. Provide back braces.

#3: Same Level Slip or Trip
Solution: Provide proper footwear or educate employees on the safest shoes for the job. Make sure no one is running through the workplace. Keep the floor clear of objects, wires, etc. Always clean up and/or mark spills and wet areas.

#4: Fall to Lower Level
Solution: When climbing, always keep a free hand to catch your fall or to grab a handrail. Educate employees on ladder safety.

#5: Strike Against an Object
Solution: Prohibit running and/or walking too fast in the workplace. Keep pathways clear in the office/on the worksite. Keep eyes ahead while walking. Avoid horseplay.

Be sure to come back next week for another five incidents.
