The month of March continues! Before it is over, you may want to take a moment to recognize Workplace Eye Wellness Month. According to Prevent Blindness America, “thousands of eye accidents happen each day and 90 percent of these are preventable with the use of appropriate safety eyewear.” As a business owner, it is important to be aware of this increasing issue and of course, prevent possible accidents as best as possible. How? Our agents at Wolpert Insurance can help!
We have put together a list of six ways that you can reduce the number of eye injuries in the workplace. Read on:
#1: Recognize the risks in the workplace and minimize them as best as possible. This may include recognizing objects that could fall, faulty machinery, equipment, and more.
#2: Select the right eyewear for the job. Remember, the cheapest pair of goggles will have the cheapest quality. Always look for quality over price.
#3: Make sure all employees understand how to properly adjust and wear their eye protection. Many injuries happen due to improper usage or a “bad fit.”
#4: Update gear when necessary – especially if there are cracks or damages. You may need to replace goggles much more often than you realize.
#5: Set up an eyewash station for employee use. This may be mandatory, depending on your business.
#6: Continue to train and remind your employees about eye safety. You can attend seminars, hold meetings or workshops.
If you follow the safety measures above, you may be able to avoid facing a Massachusetts workers compensation claim much sooner than later. The fewer claims on your workers comp, the lower your premium will be in the long run – so make safety a priority today!
